I Need Your Help

July 19th, 2007 by matt

Dear fellow human being,

If you’re like most people, you enjoy living life the best you can. You don’t need to worry about persistent, dangerous infections. You don’t need to worry about constant fever, chills, and night sweats. You don’t need to worry about living a difficult and debilitating life.

Unfortunately, people with leukemia or lymphoma are not as lucky. Here is a brief example of the horrors that a person diagnosed with leukemia or lymphoma goes through:

Ashton was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia in 1998, when he was just two-years-old. His treatment consisted of 108 weeks of terrible things — chemo, spinal taps, shots, blood tests and even cranial radiation. Despite all of these hardships, this little fighter never lost his spirit, and it was often his joy in the face of trouble that was getting the whole family through. Today, Ashton is pushing 11 years old and to look at him you wouldn’t know the battle he faced all those years ago.

People like Ashton would not be able to cope and eventually triumph over leukemia and lymphoma without the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society — and the Society cannot exist without your donations.

To raise money for the Society, I’ve decided to ride in the Sea Gull Century, which is a 100 mile bike race held in October in Salisbury, MD. I’ve never ridden a bike for that distance or time (the race will take around 8 hours) and desperately need your help. Your words of encouragement and verbal support will help me greatly in the coming months of training, as well as the actual race. But monetary support for the Society is even more important.

You see, I have to raise $2000 for the race or the Society will send Tony Soprano to my house to break my kneecaps with a baseball bat.1 Tony isn’t doing much since his show ended, so he hires himself out to needy causes. Sort of like the A-Team, but a lot more violent.

Also, anyone who donates $100 or more gets a fabulous, definitely-not-from-Five-Below, exciting prize!2

So please consider donating to this very worthy cause. Browse the sections of my website for more information and ask questions on anything you’re unclear about. Also, I’ll be updating my training calendar section in the near future with blog entries about the training and the process I’ll be going through. Keep checking the website for new and updated content.

Thank you very much!

  1. OK, my knees really aren’t in any danger from a rogue Mafia hitman with a maple bat. But all the rest is absolutely true.
  2. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does not condone or endorse these prizes. All fabulousness of the prizes is based on the judgement of the prize-giver.
