I don't get Valentine's Day anymore

February 14th, 2007 by matt

This week I’ve gotten Valentine’s Day cards from my Dad and his girlfriend, my grandmother, and my Mom. What is up with that? Valentine’s Day is for you and your spouse, should you happen to have one at that time. It’s supposed to be a nice, romantic day for that special someone. Why are my family members sending me Valentine’s Day cards? It’s actually kind of disturbing.

Do other people’s families do this? Is this a common thing? Or is my family just desperately lonely on February 14th every year?

It’s probably just a ploy by the greeting card industry to sell more greeting cards. “You didn’t send a card to your loved ones on Valentine’s Day? You’re Hitler” seems to be the message. I respond with “Don’t be creepy. Stick with your significant other for Valentine’s Day cards.”

Damn you greeting card industry. You’ll get your comeuppance.
