Ten Best Albums of 2006
December 27th, 2006 by matt
Here is my top 10 list of best albums for 2006. This is, of course, not a definitive list, since I don’t own every album released in 2006 nor would I want to, but I feel this is a pretty good list nonetheless. Anyway, one with the show (drumroll, please):
10) Portugal, The Man - Waiter: You Vultures!

This is kind of an odd album. Actually, there’s nothing kind of about it, it IS an odd album. But there’s something about it that swirls in the chaos that speaks to me. I hope it’s not the voice of the beast.
9) Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not

Yeah, this one’s on everyone’s list. That’s because it’s pretty good and it was a slow year for music.
8: Eagles of Death Metal - Death By Sexy

Just the song “I Want You So Hard (Boy’s Bad News)” alone makes this album a contender. But the rest is good too. BTW, check out the video for the aforementioned song (it’s probably on youtube). Fracking hilarious.
7) …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - So Divided

I think they get the award for longest band name ever. But they should do put out good music. I just got into them this year, though they’ve been around for years now.
6) The Blue Van - Dear Independence

No one has heard of these guys, and that is a damn shame.
The lead singer was also the lead singer for The Toadies. I saw this band play at Lollapalooza and they were great.
4) Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

While this album is not quite as good as their previous album, Absolution (which admittedly is a tough album to follow), it is a very good album.
3) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium

This moves up a couple notches just on the amount of music alone. I still haven’t digested it all.
2) The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers

Also saw these guys at Lollapalooza. They were amazing and had one of the largest crowds of the weekend. Although I had their CD before the show, I didn’t listen to it a lot. When I got back, I listened to the album again and really got into it. I don’t know how a song like “Intimate Secretary” didn’t catch my attention right away, because that might be the best song of the year. Anyway, I highly, highly recommend listening to this album.
1) Wolfmother (self titled)

From the opening two seconds of the album, I knew it was going to be great. The remaining hour or so didn’t disappoint. I love the classic rock revival feel to this album. Yet another band I saw at Lollapalooza. This is an album that you can’t help but bob your head to. Go listen to it now!
That’s about it. What albums were your favorite this year?
