ACL Surgery

November 13th, 2006 by matt

Man, I haven’t posted anything in a long time…and this won’t be anything substantial, either. I just wanted to let people know that I’m having ACL replacement surgery on my right knee on December 6th. I apparently ripped my ACL back in March, but I finally went to the doctor in September. When I injured the knee, I didn’t think it was all that serious. I thought I had sprained it playing soccer and it would heal in a month or so. Then softball and volleyball season started and I somehow ignored the pain so I could play. I did have to slap on my old bulky knee brace in order for my knee not to buckle, but I did play. I’m actually pretty impressed that I continued to play sports on the knee. Go me.

Once again I listed “playing soccer” as the cause of my injury on the insurance forms. I’ve now managed to have serious injuries to both knees, my left ankle, and my right shoulder while playing soccer. And I hurt my left shoulder while lifting weights for soccer. Five of the ten major joints down, five to go.

However, I don’t think I’ll be playing soccer ever again, which makes me rather sad. I still have the desire to play, but my body is an unwilling partner. I’m practically the $60,000 dollar man at this point (We can rebuild him, but we don’t want to spend a lot of money), so I should probably quit before I hurt myself again.

Who am I kidding, I’ll be out playing soccer six months from now.
