The passing of an old friend

I think I’m done with The Simpsons. Not in every way, but I don’t think I’ll make sure I have nothing else to do Sunday nights at 8 anymore. If I’m watching a movie or if I want to go shopping, I won’t worry about getting home in time to catch Homer’s latest antics. I decided this after watching last night’s episode. It wasn’t particularly funny, as is the case of most episodes in the last few seasons, and the animation seemed really craptacular. It was as if there were a few frames missing in each sequence. I especially noticed this in the sequence when Milhouse was throwing the Frisbee to himself, then he’d go pick it up and throw it again. Maybe it was just my medication, but it certainly seemed like the animation was jerky and quite poor. Besides the animation, the story was just lame. I mean, they used that gansta rap thing for two minutes, just to introduce the main plot.

I wonder if the writers and actors even find the show funny anymore. I can’t imagine that an episode like last night’s would get many laughs at the table read.

I’ll probably still watch them most every day at 6 & 6:30, but at some point I’ll start questioning why. I’ll just have to catch old episodes that I missed on DVD, when all the seasons are finally released in 2012.
