S Day

December 18th, 2004 by matt

So I went to the doctor about a week ago, and after all the physical therapy and the steroid shot, my shoulder is not improving (in fact, I think it may be getting worse). This left no other alternative but surgery. So, sometime after February 9th, I’ll be getting my shoulder operated on. Why after February 9th, you ask? Good question, Billy! February 9th is my one-year anniversary at Datatel, and after one year I qualify for short-term disability. I will be out of work for 1-4 weeks, depending on what they find and what they fix. If they just find some bone spurs and just shave and smooth things, I’ll probably only be out for a week. However, if they find something is torn and they need to plant bone sutures, I’ll be out for 4 weeks (which is the maximum time period for short-term disability). If the latter, my arm would be in a sling for 4 weeks. If the former, it would only be in a sling for a few days. Since the MRI showed nothing, we won’t know what is wrong until Dr. Berg operates and goes in to see for himself.

I’m happy that this is finally (hopefully) going to be taken care of, but it will be a long time before the shoulder feels normal again.

In other news, I’m moving the weekend of January 7th. I’m moving into an apartment that is 2 miles away from work, which will be sweet. It’s a nicer place (not that my current place isn’t nice), but it will be more expensive. Basically, I’m moving because I can’t stand the traffic around here, and I’d like to bike to work when possible. I’m excited about moving closer to work, but not excited about moving in general. Plus, since I just found the place Thursday and finalized everything yesterday, we don’t have a ton of time to pack and get ready. I figure the week after Christmas I’ll be packing and getting ready. Hopefully this is the last time I move until I buy a house. I hate moving, but I hate traffic more. :-)
