Take me out to the ballgame

Yesterday Marci and I went to the Orioles game. They played the Blue Jays, whom Carlos Delgado plays for and who has pissed me off because I drafted him early for my fantasy team but he’s had a horrible year. Anyway, the Blue Jays won, but it was an exciting game. The O’s were losing 8-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Then they scored two runs to close to 8-5. With 2 outs, they managed to load the bases. The fans were going nuts, especially for O’s fans who are pretty reserved (especially when compared to Phillies fans, who were my only previous experience). Jay Gibbons hit a nasty slicing line drive into right field, but the Jays’ right fielder made a fantastic diving catch to rob Gibbons of a sure two run single. It was a shame, because the O’s fought back and looked like they were ready to take the game. But with a defensive play like that, you can only congratulate the guy, because it was Web Gem worthy.
The Blue Jays’ second baseman also made a Web Gem caliber play. David Newhan hit a slow roller between the mound and first base, and the pitcher couldn’t get it. The second baseman used his glove to flip the ball from off the ground to the first baseman. It looked like Ozzie Smith out there, it was that incredible of a play. Newhan was busting down the line too, so the play was extremely close. He was called out, but it could have very easily gone the other way.
It was very, very sunny. So sunny that I got burned. I hadn’t shaved in a few days before the game, and I forgot to shave before going to the game, so only the top of my face is burned. I have to not shave for a while now, unless I want to have that half-burned/tan half-pale look that is not all the rage in Hollywood these days.
