The Power of Nerds
July 28th, 2008 by matt
There has been much buzz on the ol’ interweb about the trailer for the Watchmen movie that is coming out. Watchmen is one of the most revered comic books of all time (that’s my understanding, at least, as I have yet to read it) and people have been looking to transfer it to the big screen for a long time. So now that the trailer has hit and fanboys are going crazy over it, I’ve noticed something interesting. The song that is played in the trailer is “The Beginning is the End is the Beginning” by the Smashing Pumpkins. This song was released in 1997 on the soundtrack for the beyond awful Batman & Robin movie. The song is, as I write this, #62 on the list of top sellers in the iTunes Music store (and it’s #7 in the Alternative genre). That, my friends, is the result of getting a song attached to something that appeals to millions of fanboys. A song released over a decade ago that was never a hit is selling better than all but 61 songs on iTunes. The power of nerds, indeed.
Let’s just hope that a song originally written for Batman & Robin does not foreshadow the quality of the Watchmen movie.
Awesome Update to Amazon’s Wish List

Amazon just released an update to their wish list that enables you to add any item you see on any web site to their wish list. It’s called the Universal Wish List Button. I love this feature because I use my wish list as a means to publish my Christmas list to my extended family in an accessible manner. Now I can add things that I see around ye’ ol’ Intertubes that amuse me but are not carried by Amazon (for example, this awesome t-shirt). Now I don’t have to maintain a separate list for these types of items. Thanks Amazon!
